What happens on your first visit?

When you arrive, you’ll be greeted by one of our volunteers who’ll show you around and introduce you to others.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need any previous experience? Not at all. Whether you've spent a lifetime working with wood and tools or have never picked up a screwdriver before, you'll be made very welcome. Our members have a wide range of skills and are always happy to share their knowledge and help one another.

What if I'm a woman? Stour Valley Men's Shed currently focuses on providing a welcoming space for men. However, we're actively exploring ways to support women too, including the possibility of introducing dedicated She Shed days in the future. If this is something you'd be interested in, we'd love you to join our mailing list to keep up to date with future developments.

Can I visit before becoming a member? Absolutely. We understand that joining somewhere new can feel like a big step. If you'd like to have a look around, meet some of our members and see what we do before joining, simply get in touch via our Contact Us page to arrange a visit. We'd be delighted to show you around.

Do I have to attend every week? No. There is no expectation that you'll attend every week, every session or every event. Come as often—or as little—as suits you. Whether you visit weekly or just from time to time, you'll always receive a warm welcome.

Can I bring my own projects? Yes. Many members enjoy working on their own projects while making use of the workshop, tools and friendly advice from other members. If you're unsure whether your project is suitable, just ask—we'll always do our best to help.

Is there parking? Yes. Free parking is available on site in the designated, signposted parking spaces.

What should I bring with me? Just yourself! If you're staying for the day, you may wish to bring a packed lunch and a reusable mug. Tea, coffee and biscuits are usually available at the Shed, although you're very welcome to bring your own refreshments too. From time to time we also run special winter initiatives where warm meals are available for members. Please keep an eye on our Latest News page for details of any upcoming initiatives.

Is there an upper age limit? No. Members of all ages over 18 are welcome. Whether you're recently retired, have been retired for years or are still working, you'll find a friendly, supportive environment where you can get involved at your own pace.
